VIEW FROM THE MANSE 2.0 - MARCH 2024

A couple of times I have mentioned the monthly study that I am hosting for young adults and I want to explain a little about it here. When I first came to New York in 2016, someone mentioned to me, “We don’t have anything in our community aimed at young adults.” I looked around. I asked around. He was right. I couldn’t find anything from an organizational or programmatic standpoint. To be clear, I am not sure that the church needs a program for every age group or life stage. I am not sure that is even possible. But our Young Life leaders work very hard to reach high schoolers for Jesus, and when those high schoolers graduate, they have nobody to ‘hand them off to.’ Some of these young men and women are new Christians. All of them are going through significant changes in their lives. And they could use friendship from older, more experienced Christians, a listening ear and perhaps some guidance. I kept wanting the perfect conditions to make this happen, but waiting for perfection meant...

DEACON’S CORNER - March 2024

In Galatians 6:2 Paul implores Christians to, “ Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. ” The members of this congregation took those words to heart in February, stepping up in a big way to support the Deacons' bake sale fundraiser to benefit the Open Door/Code Blue. How big? How does record setting sound? Thanks to your response and generosity the sale raised $733.75, more than any other bake sale we have ever held. In the spirit of “carrying each other's burdens” those funds will assist Code Blue in providing warmth and shelter to the homeless, the needy and the struggling during what has turned into a brutally frigid late winter in the North Country. This spiritual synergy between the Church and the Deacons is an example that reaching out to those in need is not only a responsibility of a Deacon...it is a responsibility of a Christian.  In Philippians 2:5 Paul implores us to “... have the same attitude th...
