VIEW FROM THE MANSE 2.0
Naming
the most busy month of the year for the church is not easy. Christmas and
Easter certainly come to mind. But September definitely makes a case for
itself. And this year will be busier than most.
We
are ramping back up. Sunday school and choir have been on hold for the summer,
but they begin again. The praise team has been taking the month of August off,
but we will see them in September. Many of the familiar faces that have been
sporadic in the summer with vacations, travel, and trips to the lake or
mountains are seen more frequently again. And our summer book discussion will
continue into September for a few weeks as well.
On
top of this, our nominating committee begins its
work as does our budget committee. And this year our church is hosting
Presbytery at the end of the month.
We
are planning to begin Sunday school on September 7 following the service. Our
first quarter will last 8 weeks and conclude on October 26. One of these Sunday
school classes is going to be entitled, Just for Starters. I am teaching this class
and it is aimed at those who are curious about following Jesus, new to
following Jesus, or those who want to revisit the fundamentals. We will offer
two other adult classes as well. There will be more news coming in the weeks
ahead.
We
are grateful for all the work that the choir and praise teams do to lead us in
song (all of our Sunday service and all of our life is worship, so I
distinguish between calling it worship leading and song leading). If you have
not participated in choir, but you would like to, please contact Joyce Durkee.
If you would like to participate in Praise team (we have been praying for a
bass guitar for a number of years), please contact Brian Wells.
The
nominating committee is composed of men and women who were voted on at our
annual meeting in January and several elders and deacons. The financial
committee is made up of session members and trustees. If you have any questions
about these teams and there work, please see me. If you want to raise some
financial concerns now for the committee to discuss in its time together, please email me and we will take your
input into account.
I
know that summer is busy. I know that many of us have felt pulled in multiple
directions for the last 3 months. We needed some rest and relaxation and we
wanted to do all the outside activities we could while the weather was nice.
Plus, we had family trips and reunions calling for our time. But as the summer
is winding down, I am looking forward to seeing some of you that we have been
missing. I am excited for what God will do in and through us in the months
ahead.
Bryan Fitzgerald,
Pastor (bryan@argylepresbyterian.org)
