DEACONS CORNER - January 2026
As a direct result of having been designated to pen this article each month, I have a distinctly unique observational perspective on the activities of the church's various groups, and the participation of its congregants, in pursuit of our goal of “making disciples who make a difference”. Within that context, I am ever impressed with the selfless enthusiasm of our members to give generously and willingly to the Deacons' and other groups' various charitable endeavors.
According
to the website “Bible Study Tools”, when the Apostle Paul penned the Book of
Romans in roughly AD 56 or 57, his primary theme was “God's plan of salvation
and righteousness for all humankind”. In chapter 12, Verse 13 of that book he
wrote: “Share with the Lord's people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” As
we enter a new year, it is admirable that as a church this is what we do!
On
the 7th of December the Deacons turned McLean Hall into a welcome
station for over 170 visitors who made the circuit of stops for the annual
Argyle Country Christmas celebration. The stop at APC featured coffee,
chocolate, cookies, activities, crafts and Christmas carol sing-alongs with
members of our choir.
On
the 14th we combined an “Ugly Christmas Sweater” fundraiser with
cookie contributions from the bevy of bakers within our midst. The Ugly Sweater
event raised an impressive $549 benefiting the Open Door Mission's “Code Blue”
operation that provides a warm bed and respite from the cold for those homeless
members of the Glens Falls and surrounding communities. The cookie bakers
responded with enough goodies to allow the Deacons to assemble and deliver 20
cookie platters that included our Friends At Home, the Argyle Library, EMS
station, Firehouse, Highway Department, Post Office, the Church office and the
Fitzgerald household. Thank you, APC, and well done! (Again).
We
Deacons appreciate your willing participation and your amazing generosity
throughout the year and wish you and your families a happy, healthy and
prosperous 2026.
