DEACONS CORNER - APRIL 2026
With
the cooperation of the USPS, most of you will more than likely have this
month's Pathfinder in hand prior to Easter Sunday. I'll take that timetable and
use it to wish you all a somewhat early, blessed Easter! Acknowledgment that
Christ willingly gave up his life for us in a brutal and painful manner; and
then, a mere three days later, resurrected from the dead to summarily
re-balance the world order by forgiving its sins and definitively defeating
death, is the faith that forms and defines the collective, passionately beating
heart of Christianity.
While
we celebrate these amazing gifts that Father God has bestowed upon us, we ought
to also take away a realization that we, as Christians, have a reciprocal
obligation to help keep our world in the state that THE resurrection returned
it to.
In an article on the website Christianity.com,
Brian G. Hedges, lead
pastor for Fulkerson Park Baptist Church in Niles, Michigan wrote: “The
resurrection, you see, not only assures of God’s forgiveness and comforts us in
suffering as we anticipate the final reversal of death, disease, and decay; it
also motivates and empowers us to push back the tide of suffering and evil in
the present world, through word and deed, in mercy and justice, all in Jesus’
name”. It is a proud tribute to that sentiment that we at APC live
this as a regular part of our community.
There's
not a whole lot going on for April besides everyone looking forward to Spring
and the warm weather that we've been waiting for. The one major event is the
annual Crop Walk that will take place on April 26 starting at 12:30p.m. The
Deacons will be set up for sign-ups and donations on April 12th and 19th.
Ever
present in the usual list of fellowship opportunities is our “Coins for Care”
spare change water jug on the ledge in McLean Hall. The money accumulated in
that jar can be help with sudden or unexpected issues that might occur within
our congregation. Hang on to your change all week and bring it on Sunday to
dump into the jug.
Remember
that our Food Pantry in the yellow house can always use a volunteer of two. If
you might be inclined to lend a hand, contact Lisa White at 518-812-5557 to see
what she might need.
In
that same area, remember that the Deacons are available to assist folks who
have volunteered at the Open Door Mission on Warren Street in the past to get
signed up and active on the Mission's new on-line volunteer system. There are
multiple areas needing volunteer help and once you are in the system they will
contact you with openings in the area you prefer. If you need help just call
Corinne Fitzgerald (518-350-3008); Tom Genovese (518-260-0157) or the Church
Office (518-638-8072).
“Jesus saith
unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed:
blessed are
they that have not seen and yet have believed.” John
