Deacon's Corner February 2024

As a congregation we are connected through the precious blood of Christ, and together we will journey into a new year fraught with economic and social uncertainties that could have an impact on our community or even each of our daily lives. Be that as it may, 2024 also presents a new, challenging and busy year for the Deacons; one that we are prepared for and eager to accept.

At our annual planning meeting on January 4th, we laid out a number of fund raising and other events to meet anticipated and unknown needs within the church. A February bake sale fundraiser has been set for the 11th and will benefit Code Blue. In April look forward to getting a head start on ACP's annual Christmas change jars as well as making sure we have your military or college student children's addresses so that they will be on our mailing list to receive encouraging cards and communication from the Deacons.

We'll revisit some of these as they get closer and add others as they approach or are necessary. We do want you to know that, because of our shared connection, we are deeply committed to serving and ministering to the needs of this congregation and our community. If you or someone you know has a need that requires assistance, please reach out to a Deacon so we can address it.

As a one-third member of this Deacon “freshman class” I will be assuming the responsibility of penning this monthly update from Tim Banfield, who along with Judy Liddle and Bonnie Wells, has cycled off after 6 years of service. Corinne Fitzgerald and Brooke Burnham make up the remaining two-thirds of the freshmen.

Being the new kid on the block with the Deacons I wanted to know a little more about “Deacons”, Bryan pointed me to ACTS where I found the passage below. This was the founding of Deacons in the church so I thought I'd close this initial effort with it.

“So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said, “We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program. And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility.” Acts 6:2-3
