TRUSTEE TALK - April 2024


We are very blessed to have so many Former Trustees and Friends of Trustees helping to keep our church buildings in beautiful shape. Many thanks to Eileen, Barry, Gabe, Claudia and Catherine Johnson for doing their annual pew cleaning. Candlewax, bits of worship guides, dirt and stains were removed making the pews spotless for Holy Week and Easter services. Thanks, also to Carl and Eileen for their skills and attention to detail which make our new railings blend in as well as being a needed aid at the steps.


Our Chair Lift is back up and running after months of intermittent service. We believe that all issues have been remedied. Thank you for your patience. 


As a result of our meeting with an insurance representative in January, where dates for many building upgrades were asked, we realized the need for that information to be recorded and in one place. Wes and Eileen took on that challenge and compiled a history of the APC buildings, renovations and records. This is an extensive listing of all that has been done to our church properties and is a valuable resource. Their time, effort and attention to detail in this report is greatly appreciated.


Please mark May 4th, 8:00 to noon on your calendars for Spring Work Day. There are many chores to be done and we need many workers.

VIEW FROM THE MANSE 2.0 - April 2025

  Recently, on a Saturday morning, APC hosted a new members’ class. This class has taken different forms in recent years. It was once offered on 6 consecutive Sundays during the Sunday school hour (and we may go back to doing that in the future). But, more recently, we have been taking a Saturday morning to cover all that material in a single day. It sounds daunting, but we take breaks and conclude with lunch from the Argyle Variety. I enjoy teaching this class immensely and I am usually assisted by a ruling elder (this past time I was assisted by Wes Clark).           The class is structured around the membership questions. VIEW FROM THE MANSE 2.0

  Naming the most busy month of the year for the church is not easy. Christmas and Easter certainly come to mind. But September definitely makes a case for itself. And this year will be busier than most.           We are ramping back up. Sunday school and choir have been on hold for the summer, but they begin again. The praise team has been taking the month of August off, but we will see them in September. Many of the familiar faces that have been sporadic in the summer with vacations, travel, and trips to the lake or mountains are seen more frequently again. And our summer book discussion will continue into September for a few weeks as well.           On top of this, our nominating committee begins it s work as does our budget committee. VIEW FROM THE MANSE 2.0 - AUGUST 2025

            As I write this month’s entry, we are part way through VBS. The energy of VBS is such a wonderful thing to be a part of. It is a delight to see volunteers from high school and senior saints working together to share the story of Jesus with our young people. Our opening and closing sessions are being led by Brian Wells Jr. He is doing a tremendous job getting us started on the right foot. His skits with his dad are playful and goofy and the kids love it. All the hours that were given to decorating the church have really made it a special place to be. Our kitchen team is crafting simple, delicious meals and no one leaves McLean Hall hungry.           It is hard to believe we are entering August already. The summer has, once again, flown by.
